Jean-Michel Basquiat

Jean-Michel Basquiat

(New York, 22 December 1960 – New York, 12 August 1988)

He was an American writer and painter.
he was one of the most important exponent of American graffiti, managing to bring together with Keith Haring, this movement from metropolitan streets to art galleries.
in 1983 he established a strong friendship with Andy Warhol, who helped him to break into the world of art as an emerging world phenomenon.
Jean-Michel's paintings were characterized by crude, childish images, referring to Jean Dubuffet's Art Brut.
The element that distinguishes Basquiat's art is essentially the use of words, inserted in his paintings as an integral part, but also as a background, deleted, sometimes even to attract the attention of the viewer.
