Armand Pierre Fernandez

known as Arman

(Niece, 17 November 1928 – New York, 22 October 2005)

The artist used to represent on his canvas broken musical instruments.
part of his work included accumulations of objects such as shoes, coins, clocks, brushes, tubes of paint and others. He also approached sculpture, usually of bronze, that represented the same subjects as on the canvas.
Among the greatest representatives of the nuveau realisme, an artistic movement that wants to recount the human being through the use of everyday objects (shoes, watches, coins, ...).
Through the many techniques that he used, Arman is considered a sculptor-painter. He will define himself perfectly by presenting himself as a “un peintre qui fait de la sculpture”.
